Broadmead demolition text

Broadmead, the main shopping area in Bristol is being redeveloped and expanded. After years of discussion, work is now cracking on. Lots of buildings are being demolished. Last week I came past this site at 10pm and all the machines were working with lights on their arms ripping down the old stores. It looked quite eerie.
The new Broadmead will cross over Bond Street, a main road that will be re-routed, and onto the area of ground where the multi-storey car park and Tollgate house now stand. Tollgate house is being demolished. As I was taking the photos, it struck me that this is the third incarnation I've known for this area. I remember going swimming in the Victorian baths there before it was pulled down to make more car parks. The Western Star Domino club was here as well.

St Mary Redcliffe text

1. view St Mary Redcliffe. Maybe Liz 1 was easily impressed.

4.Not to be outdone, Bristol city council have built lots of flats like this in the vicinity.
5.The river, or the "New Cut" to be exact. This is a canal dug out by French prisoners during the Napoleonic wars to allow Bristol's harbout to become non-tidal, a "floating harbour".
6.Another reflection showing old tobacco warehouses.
7. I went to the Riverside garden centre

They have a nice cafe. It is in a sort of greenhouse building, next to the exotic plants bit. There is usually artwork on display. Here are the cacti.

12. Castle Park from the bandstand. This area was very built up until it got bombed to smithereens in world war 2. The large church on the right is St Mary-le-Port.It doesn't have a roof, but has been left as a monument.
13. The Old Duke, King Street. Famous for jazz. There was jazz playing as I took this photo, but I didn't have to go too close, thank goodness.
14.The Llandoger Trow. Very old pub. Crisps still only cost 4d a bag there.
15, 16,17. Some views of the Old Granary. Amazing building. Started life as a grain store and has been a famous heavy metal music venue. Now it is flats.
